Game Update – Revenge of the Titans

Current completion – 35%

Game review – I didn’t write it, but you can find it here.

I decided to dig this game out of the vast collection to work on for two main reasons. 1) I already had a few achievements for it, so adding more will help my overall completion. 2) There is a special “yeti attack mode” that is only unlocked at this time of year.

Merry Christmas! Your present is a bunch of giant yetis who have come to eat your buildings!

The review that I linked above has more details about the game. In a nutshell, it’s a tower defense game with a twist – mainly that the hordes of enemies you will face don’t necessarily stick to the roads. Although they do travel faster when they remain on the roads through the rocky terrain, they are free to leave the beaten path to try to sneak around your defenses in order to attack your refineries or base. Since many of the levels allow them to come from multiple directions, you’ll have to pay attention and act quickly to stop them all.

The game does have a pretty steep learning curve. It can be quite easy to find yourself overwhelmed by the alien horde – especially when you need to plant down simple barricades to keep them away, but suddenly find that you’ve run out of money. Another nasty twist is the money, actually – the more you have at the start of the level, the harder the level actually is – both with the number of enemies, and with the lack of resource nodes. However, if you don’t have enough money at the start of the level, you may find it difficult – if not impossible – to build up even minimal defenses to protect your base.

One of many games from Puppygames, Revenge of the Titans is an entertaining approach to tower defense, but sometimes becomes too frustratingly difficult. I doubt I will ever be able to complete this at 100% achievement, but I’m going to at least try to get into the 60% to 70% range. The Christmas-themed achievements are cute, but difficult – and if you’re a completionist, you may find it frustrating that it is only possible to get these at a certain time of year (unless you tweak with your computer’s clock settings, that is).

I hope everyone reading this has a very Merry Christmas! Feel free to chime in on the comments section here, or on my Facebook page, and let me know what games you got for Christmas! Maybe, if we received the same ones, we can meet up online and play against each other.

More than likely you’ll win, but it could be good for a laugh or two.

Until next week, Merry Christmas, and keep on gaming!
